Summer In My Living Room... Part One

Hey there, welcome...

to chez oneshabbychick!

It's been such a crazy busy spring around here...

I haven't had any time to foof around this place since

and I have missed it.

So it felt really good to spend time in my living room this week...

doing some serious foofing.

This is Part 1 of the little summery makeover I've been doing...

the Mantel.

It was finally time to get out all those seashells, starfish and coral again...

and let them be the stars for a while...

Part Two of
Summer In My Living Room
coming soon...

Hurray for Summer!

What I Found In The Barn.....

So.......

you wanna see what I got?!

{if you missed the one about the barn you can read all about it here}

Now, despite the fact that I warned Mr. Shabby
that since he had decided not to join me on my outing,
he wouldn't be able to tell me not to buy it...

and even though his reply was that there would even be a whole hour in there
when he'd be totally unreachable...

I didn't manage to find anything huge and expensive to surprise him with.

But I did find a few shabby treasures at very fair prices to bring home with me...

In the first barn...

I found a pair of these iron planters

I loved their
Frenchy shape and feet
dull metal gray
rusty chipped patina

and their price was hard to beat.

In the second barn...

I walked in and the first table I came to had

a stack of eight old white Belgian dishes...

they were calling my name...

my dad was with me and said "we'll buy those if you don't".

Nice try.

And in the last room, in the last cupboard, I found...

this old Dutch tureen

with a wonderful color and aged patina

and a different shape and details

than most of the ironstone I've come across

It didn't require much thought... I loved her.

I even love her little tag and haven't wanted to remove it just yet...

So there you have it...

my new toy collection.

Yours in all things pale, shabby and reasonably priced,

Ain't Nothin' Like a Good Ol' Antiques Barn Sale

I don't know about you...

but the words "antiques" and "barn sale" make my shabby little heart skip a beat.

So I was a very happy chick when I took a field trip this past weekend...

Met my mom, dad and sis on a pretty farm in the Virginia countryside...

With more than one barn...

literally bursting...

with European furniture, chandeliers, lighting, china, stoneware, urns, decorative objects,

mirrors, baskets, architectural elements...

it was the shopping trip of my shabby little dreams.

From the photos it appears that nobody was there...

but an hour or so before, you couldn't move in these rooms without saying "excuse me".

There was no time for blog pics..... you had to stake your claim.

You can just imagine what it looked like before they all took their treasures with them...

I found some treasures too...

which I will surely be sharing with you.

{Hint: one of them came from those cabinets against the far wall, above ;-}

It was a fun thing for this family of antique shoppin' fools to do.......

And since I didn't get to properly fête my mama on her birthday last week...

I brought along a little birthday picnic.

There just happened to be a shabby farm picnic table waiting for us...

and our Rhubarb Pavlovas....

It was a great Shabby Family field trip!

more soon,

Happy Mama's Day!

To all you mamas out there.....
from one lucky mama to another...
I hope you were spoiled rotten today!

And that you were able to take a moment to appreciate
how truly blessed you are...

even if it required plugging your ears to drown out
the constant arguing/teasing/hitting/kicking/crying/whining/complaining/backtalk
coming from your adorable off-spring...

I wouldn't know anything about that.

But I did manage to have that moment in my day...
realizing how wonderful it is to have brought these two amazing people into the world...
(even if they couldn't give me the one thing I asked them for for Mother's Day...
a little peace, please.....)

I got to spend some time lovin' on my own amazing Mama, too.

And that, in my book, is all that is required to have
a pretty special Mother's Day.

more soon...
{I promise}
